immediate help
You may find yourself in a situation whereby you are at risk of contracting HIV, even though you had taken precautionary measures. For example, a condom tears or breaks. Should this occur, you are eligible for PEP treatment.
There may be times when you feel an urge to talk to someone or to ask a certain question. You can call Hiv Vereniging Nederland and Sensoa, also outside of regular office hours.

PEP
PEP stands for Post-Exposure Prophylaxis. PEP is a combination of drugs used to prevent the development of HIV in somebody recently exposed. There is no guarantee that PEP will work. One PEP treatment consists of a regimen of anti-HIV drugs taken over a four-week period. PEP is only prescribed after careful medical examination.
Anyone exposed to the risk of HIV infection, should within 2 to
72 hours, contact a "sociaalverpleegkundige", a doctor or GGD infection
specialist in their region. (The GGD applies only to the Netherlands).
The GGD are open 24 hours a day for urgent cases and can conduct
risk-screening. PEP can be prescribed by an internist after consultation
by the GGD.
