insurance

If you are HIV positive, you will not be able to take out certain insurance policies or only with certain restrictions. People with HIV are seen by (some) insurance companies as forming a higher risk, so if they are allowed to take out an insurance policy at all, it will only have limited coverage or be for a much higher premium. As a result, you might have problems getting additional insurance to supplement your basic (health) insurance, but also in getting hospitalisation insurance, life insurance (which is important for obtaining a mortgage), 'outstanding-balance' insurance and insurance for a guaranteed income for people who are self-employed. But that is also true for burial insurance or travel insurance.

If you want to have insurance, compare the different policies first. What do they insure and under which conditions? You might not get complete coverage immediately but may have to wait one or more years.

You can find more information about different kinds of insurance in the Netherlands (in Dutch) on: hivnet.org
and about health insurance in particular (in English) on: faq
You can find more information (in Dutch and French) about insurance in Belgium on: sensoa.be en assuralia.be

other matters
HIV can also have consequences for you in terms of legal, social, psychological or financial matters. For many such questions, you can turn to your HIV nurse or social worker, or to the Social Services Department at your ARC (in Belgium) or HIV Treatment Centre (in the Netherlands), to Sensoa in Belgium or Hiv Vereniging Nederland in the Netherlands. They can refer you to someone else if possible and if you would like that. Don't hesitate to ask them any questions you might have.
